Arthur Cowman
Arthur’s love of the ocean began 13 years ago when he discovered surfing through Junior Lifeguards. During his college years, he continued to pursue this passion as the captain of the SDSU Surf Team while completing his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. Growing up as a caregiver for his disabled mother and his strong desire to create a better world for individuals like her, he combined his enthusiasm for surfing with his philanthropic spirit to empower youth through Surf Therapy at various nonprofits. When Arthur is not in the water, you can find him driving across LA in an ambulance as an EMT or conducting research on innovative melanoma therapies at Saint John’s Cancer Institute. His ultimate goal is to become a physician who advocates for children with special needs.

Max Miller
Max Miller grew up on a little island in southwest Florida surrounded by the ocean. Going to the beach, boogie boarding and skim boarding were an important part of Max’s development and connection to the ocean. Max found surfing in his teenage years and was immediately hooked. After many years surfing in Florida, Max moved to California in 2010 to pursue a teaching career and live next to the great surf found in Ventura County and Southern California. After moving to California Max became a Surf Instructor in 2011 and found the job incredibly rewarding and fun. After being involved in surf camps and private lessons in Ventura for about six years Max found a new calling in Surf Therapy. Max has traveled the United States and Mexico with various surf therapy organizations to share his unique gift of surf instruction with kids and families in need. Max hopes to continue to spread the stoke of surf therapy for years to come.
